With their devastatingly powerful debut album "Alaskan Book of the Dead," Kuundlaan ("Becoming Moonlit") delivers a uniquely Alaskan twist on classic black metal along the lines of BM purists such as Darkthrone, Immortal, Taake, and Marduk. Kuundlaan crams an epic worldview of nature, darkness, individualism, and chaos into 50 minutes of absolutely scorching guitar-driven black metal. The band features Nukshean of the legendary underground Alaskan BM band Skaltros, who wrote, performed, and recorded the album on Revillagigedo Island, famed for receiving 13 feet of rain per year, for its old growth wilderness, and for its unique mythology and history.
